A tree-dwelling species in sandy areas, it hides inside crevices and loose bark during the day. At night, it emerges to feed mainly on epiphytic algae. It has a colourful body, and its eyes have a greenish tinge.
nerites They are usually inactive during the day, and often stay above the water during high tide in crevices. Such behaviour appears to be an adaptation against predation by crabs and possibly, fish.Having a hard, calcareous operculum is another defense strategy. Flattened disc-like whitish egg capsules each containing more than 30 eggs are laid on hard surfaces. The eggs hatch into swimming veliger larvae. it is the nerites
Yesterday 15 May 2009, we went to pasir ris seaside for the seashore life program... It was very very VERY muddy and most of our shoes got totally covered in mud... The whole place was covered in trash (and mud of course).... Although the sun washot, we got to see some marine creatures we never get to see before... It was worth it, there was a group who saw a live sea cucumber lying on the sea shore, and they called it a peice of moving dung or breathing (censor)....
I (Terence) walked off to a quite far away spot from the group and spotted something very intresting.... it was a live lobster that looked like its cooked that crawled out from under a huge container.... i was too far away from the group to shout or alert them about this fascinating creature...it seemed to be crawling toward the sea... heres the video of it... please wait for the video to load and buffer before hitting play, if u dont please reload this page... (sorry i dint take the part where it crawled out of the container because it was laready out)
Picking up of trash
On friday we picked up many peices of trash... and one of us were suposed to write down what we picked up on a peice of papper... we saw many things like (e.g plastic bottles and bags, paper cups, peices of styrofoam, sweet wrapers, etc) when we first arrived at the sea shore i was shocked to see so many peices of litter stuck into the mud... i remembered that we learnt in school that marine life chocke or get strangled and drowns in the litter us man throw into the sea... just look at how many marine life would die if they ate or swam into the pile of trash (bellow) except for the logs in the center...
if only everyone has seen what we did, then everybody would have stop littering into the sea...
Terence and Junxian~
more creatures we saw would be posted later this week...
