mangrove trip
The mangrove trip was more cooling than the sea shore life program trip...
In the mangroves, the guide allowed us to taste the leaf of a plant (to those who dared)
Terence in our group tasted the leaf and he said it tasted salty like chlorine.
The guide said it was due to the salty water and the plant is trying to get rid of some of the salt in it trough transpiration... as we walked trough the mangroves, we saw many tree climbing crabs.
The guide said that we spot a cicada and took a picture of it, she would treat us to a drink (i forgot who won).
the trash that we saw the most common in the mangroves were footballs and basketballs, they were trapped in between some tall roots....
This trip was less muddy than the seashore life program trip... some of us went down to the mud to see the creature in the mud, the mudskipper. The trip was really tiring, but enriching and enjoyable for us. We have discovered many new things and we are able to put them into good use in the future.

goby fish

this creature is the goby fich which also camouflages very well it is because to escape from the predators. it is said that it is usually found together with the shrimp as it helps out in finding the predator when hunting for food needed. this goby signals the shrimp to hide as their predators are searching for them to be hunted and been eaten.

Some creatures we saw
Creatures we saw
this is called the mangrove moth. The larvae is known to feed on figs.

this creature is called the red berry snail. It is usually found near the mangrove ares, in groups on the surface of mud of even at the back of the mangrove trees. they eat algae on the mud.

these are giant mud skippers which we saw that day. These large amusing fishes are lords of the mudflats at low tide. They eat almost anything including other mudskippers!

this is the tree climbing crab. they are really small, and has agile movements.
It lives in holes found on the ground and has a strong sense of defense. they are not dangerous and would not attack when it feels safe and is not provoked to any danger.

this is a picture of the mangroves which we saw that day. they have roots that stick out of the ground, that allows them to breathe through the roots, to obtain oxygen, for respiration. it is the Avicennia

this is a map of the pasir ris mangrove swamp. we stopped by to take a quick snap of the picture.
